LG, VMware offer mobile virtualisation

LG has partnered with VMware to bring virtualisation capabilities to its arsenal of Android-powered devices, reports IT Pro Portal.

Owing to the rise of smartphones at work places, many people are forced to carry two separate devices, one for work and other for personal use. LG and VMware aim to change that by offering phones capable of mobile virtualisation.

VMware has come up with a nifty virtualisation tool for LG smartphones running on Google's Android OS, set to allow users to switch between business and personal profile by simply tapping an icon on the home screen.

virtualisation adoption fails

Companies instigating major virtualisation projects are struggling to cope with security, says PC World.

According to new research, nearly three-quarters of all organisations are concerned hypervisor privileges could lead to abuse, while nearly four out of ten organisations believe that virtual environments are more difficult to keep secure than physical ones.

The survey, conducted by European research company KuppingerCole, found that 73% of global organisations were concerned that the nature of hypervisors could cause problems.

Juniper looks into security market

Juniper Networks has forked out $95 million to acquire virtualisation security vendor Altor Networks, net of shares that it already owns in the business, writes Micro Scope.

The two companies already have a technology partnership, but Juniper is ambitions to build out its network security business to cover the recent growth in virtual servers and cloud-based environments.

"This acquisition will extend our leadership in centre and cloud security and will enable customers to deploy a consistent set of security services across their physical and virtual infrastructure, while delivering lower TCO," says Juniper Service Layer Technologies executive vice-president and general manager Mark Bauhaus.
