LG Electronics (LGE) has boosted its storage device offerings with the introduction of its 12X and 8X Slim CD-Rewrite-able Recorders, for desktop and notebook computers, at Comdex in Las Vegas.
The LGE CED-8120B offers a speed of 12X CD-R, 8X CD-RW and a read speed of 32X. The CED-8120B has a maximum data transfer rate of 4 800KBps and an access time of 100msec. With 8MB of buffer memory, the product includes new Buffer Under Run Proof technology, which prevents buffer-under-run errors occurring during the writing operation. It also has a high performance disc mechanism for high-speed recording and playback.
The front panel features a stereo headphone jack, volume control and controls for eject, stop, play and track slip. Analogue and digital outputs are available on the rear panel.
"The 12X CD-RW recorder features virtually everything needed to create CDs on a PC," says Jaehong Kim, product manager: IT products at LG electronics SA. "Its plug-and-play, Windows 95/98/2000/NT-compatible environment enables users to create any type of disc, including audio, CD-ROM, photo or video CDs. It also allows users to copy files and back up data to disc, using supplied mastering software with drag-and-drop functions. In the CD-RW mode, the user can write and delete repeatedly, more than 1 000 times."
The LGE CED-8120B offers excellent compatibility with most CD format discs, including CD-DA, CD-ROM, CD-ROM XA, Mixed Mode, CD Extra, Bootable CD (El Torito) and Multi-session. It is compatible with either an E-IDE or ATAPI interface. With dimensions of 146 x 41.5 x 201 mm (W-H-D), it can be mounted horizontally or vertically and offers auto slot, motorised tray loading.
"The LGE CED-8120B is already available in South Africa," says Kim. "LGE is also introducing a Slim version of the CEN-8080B CD-RW recorder for notebook computers. The new recorder, which measures 8x 4x 24 mm (W-H-D), is a slim type recorder offering a speed of 8X CD-R, a speed of 4X CD-RW and a read speed of 24X."
The CEN-8080B has a maximum data transfer rate of 3 600KBps, an access time of 120msec and 2MB of buffer memory for quick storage/transfer. Like the CED-8120B, the CEN-8080B has a high performance disc mechanism for high-speed recording and playback. The plug-and-play recorder is Windows 95/98/2000/NT-compatible, and the LGE CEN-8080B is compatible with most CD format discs. It also accepts an E-IDE or ATAPI interface.
The LGE CEN-8080B will be available in April 2001.
"The introduction of the CED-8120B and the Slim 8080B is further proof of LGE`s commitment to this fast-growing sector," comments Kim.
