Registration for the last Linux Professional Institute (LPI) exams of the year closes on 30 October.
Exams will take place in December and organisers are still to confirm a venue.
The exams aim to increase Linux technical skills in SA. Linux Holdings, hosting the December exams, says the LPI certification is the best Linux certification available, and all Linux Holdings system administration courses are aligned with the LPI certification exams.
"The exams comprise two levels - the Junior Level Administration, which is the LPIC-1, and the Intermediate Level Administration, which is the LPIC-2. Each level consists of two exams," says programme organiser, David Olivier.
The last time these exams took place was in February, when 182 people wrote 278 exams. Thirty-seven people obtained full LPIC-1 certification and three achieved the LPIC-2.
The exams are vendor-neutral and not based on any specific course; only the overall competence of the candidate and no other factor is tested, says Olivier.
The exams will be held in association with South African proctors The Shuttleworth Foundation, Smartsource, Obsidian Systems, Novell and NetCB. They also aim to bring multiple parties, including competitors, together to work towards a single goal for the good of the community, he says.
