Linux gets anti-virus

Network Associates (NA) shipped its McAfee LinuxShield anti-virus package designed for Linux servers on Monday.

TechWeb reports that the package is based on the company`s engine that scans for viruses, worms and other malicious code. NA is pitching LinuxShield as a necessary defence for Linux servers in heterogeneous environments.

The software is managed from the McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator console.

Anti-asteroid robots designed

SpaceWorks Engineering Incorporated has designed nuclear-powered robots to divert asteroids on a collision course to earth, SACM reports.

The robots, dubbed MADMEN (Modular Asteroid Deflection Mission Ejector Node), will divert the asteroids by drilling into them and expelling asteroid chunks into space using electromagnetic acceleration.

The company`s research is under a NASA-awarded grant and is still at an early stage.

HP, MS enter partnership

HP will integrate Microsoft Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 software in its machines, according to Enterprise Security Today.

The company`s ProLiant DL320 firewall server will run ISA Server 2004 and it will offer the HP ProtectTools software suite for Microsoft products.

ISA Server 2004 Standard Edition software will be available later this year and will cost $1 499 per processor.
