K Le Roux, communications director for Linux Holdings says, "At last Linux is ready to allow administrators to do almost all Linux administration tasks from a graphical environment. To train students on Linux graphical administration tools and remain distribution neutral was previously very hard to do.
"We can now train students fast and with high and immediate outcomes. Do not make the mistake of thinking it is a watered down Linux course. We still do a lot of the command line with the difference that we first show a task graphically and then do the same task on the command line. Getting it graphically allows students to understand the command line fast. Describing what a car looks like is much harder and takes longer than simply showing a picture of a car, right?
"We realise that all students don`t want to become hard-core Linux administrators immediately but need to learn Linux now to get the job done. In many cases the student or the business owner wants to have an administrator that can, in as short a time as possible, set-up a firewall, mail server, file server etc and administrate it successfully.
"The courses are very popular and we had the first graphical Linux course last month. It was an absolute success! The graphical Linux modules consist of two courses, each three days long. They are called the Linux GUI administration course and Linux GUI advanced administration course.
"It is the first time I have heard a student, who previously knew nothing about Linux, telling me it is easy!
"The GUI courses are not a replacement for our existing LPI oriented courses. They are designed for the student or company that wants to have results immediately."
