Quest Software, a leading provider of application, database and infrastructure management solutions, has announced the availability of version 4.5 of LiteSpeed for SQL Server, the first database backup and recovery solution to support SQL Server 2005.
This new version delivers dramatic backup performance improvements and speeds SQL Server restores with object-level recovery, allowing DBAs to restore individual tables instead of the entire database. This reduces restoration time from hours to minutes and greatly decreasing both storage costs and downtime.
"SQL Server DBAs who are experiencing exponential growth in their database environments require scalable solutions to help them manage the storage and recovery of this critical data," says Martyn Healy, Marketing Director of Blue Turtle Technologies, the southern African partner for Quest Software.
"LiteSpeed for SQL Server introduces innovative capabilities that reduce storage costs by compressing data up to 90% of its original size."
The product additionally shrinks backup and recovery windows by backing up and recovering data in 50% less time than native solutions. Previous versions of LiteSpeed backed up 2.1TB of data in 60 minutes. Now, based on recent lab tests, version 4.5 of LiteSpeed will back up 3.75TB of data in less than 60 minutes.
Having been recently honoured with four SQL Server Magazine Reader`s Choice Awards, LiteSpeed continues its innovation and leadership by combining 11 levels of compression and encryption ranging from RC2 to AES with the following new unique capabilities:
* Object-level recovery - Eliminates the requirement to perform a full database restore. This allows the DBA to restore only what they need and avoids costly downtime normally associated with a full database restore.
* Double-click restore - Builds a complete, single "self-contained" restorable database file. This enables a DBA to restore the database without having to install and configure new software.
* Attached file backup - Enables DBAs to create and compress a backup file - including attachments - so that it may be restored as a single unit instead of having to do two or more separate restores.
"Version 4.5 of LiteSpeed extends the functionality of all versions of SQL Server and has the distinction of being the first backup and recovery solution to be deployed by Microsoft for SQL Server 2005. The product has been running in the Microsoft production environment for over one year - even before the beta release of SQL Server 2005," said Douglas Chrystall, chief architect, database management solutions, Quest Software.
"DBAs have been anxiously awaiting the ability to accelerate the backup process and to pinpoint recovery of objects. Now, with the latest version of LiteSpeed for SQL Server, the wait is over."
Version 4.5 of LiteSpeed for SQL Server is available now in South Africa through Quest partner Blue Turtle Technologies.
