Local Bytes skills educate international stage

Global vendor uses local skills for international training.
Johannesburg, 22 Aug 2007

Local Sun services-oriented architecture (SOA) guru, Theo Burden from Bytes Systems Integration (Bytes SI), is currently being used by the international vendor to train people across geographies on the Sun Java CAPS technology.

Sun Java CAPS is Sun's solution to developing, deploying, managing and monitoring SOA technologies within an enterprise.

The technology is a complex suite of products, which when deployed ensures a business can build and create composite applications on its existing technologies.

Sun Java CAPS contains everything an enterprise needs to develop, deploy, manage, and monitor an SOA. This unified and comprehensive suite can help your organisation create composite applications from existing investments, as well as deliver new business services with a lower total cost of ownership.

Burden is one of only four international trainers for Sun Java CAPS in the world, and has delivered training on behalf of SUN in the UK, Malta, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Spain, Portugal, India, Italy, Germany, Philippines and even in our own backyard, South Africa. The other three trainers are from Australia and the UK, with additional skills being trained to 'train' in Europe, India and Singapore.

States Burden: "The whole experience of travelling to train across geographies merely highlights that we all in fact speak the same language. The interesting factor to me is that South Africa is by no means lagging behind in the world, and while we are leaders in many aspects there is also a tremendous wealth of knowledge to learn and gain from our international counterparts.

Enterprise architecture is dictated by the skills set used to deploy it; it is training interventions such as these that ensure the success of the technology itself. Without the knowledge of how to deploy these technologies, they would never become realised.

Says Mark Neethling, Divisional Manager, Enterprise Business Solutions (EBS) at Bytes SI: "The strategic importance for us on all the Sun training we provide, and in particular the outsourcing of Theo to SUN, is that it underscores the unrecognised IP that Bytes has in the SOA space."

"We can justify this statement as we are being used by multinational vendors to deliver skills transfer worldwide, South African companies to some extent still have a colonialist attitude, where they believe if it comes from abroad it must be better," adds Neethling. "It is proficiency like that of Theo's which proves that we have a tremendous skills base, which is internationally recognised and internationally used."

Burden has a number of additional training engagements lined up for the future.
