The Core Group has announced local pricing for the updated range of iPods recently unveiled by Apple. Core Group is the local distributor of Apple products.

The iPod touch will start at R3 199 for the 32GB model, and R4 299 for the 64GB model. It will be available in black, blue, pink, white and yellow.

The iPod Nano will have a recommended retail price of R1 799 for the 16GB model, and will come in pink, yellow, blue, green, purple, silver or slate. The 2GB iPod Shuffle will start at R599, and will be available in the same colours as the iPod Nano.

The new iPod touch features the same four-inch Retina display as the new iPhone 5, and Apple says it is the thinnest iPod touch to date, measuring just 6mm. The device also features a 5MP iSight camera with 1080p HD video recording, and an A5 chip, which promises seven times faster graphics than the fourth-generation iPod touch.

A key update is also the inclusion of the intelligent voice assistant, Siri - included for the first time in an iPod. The iPod touch also runs iOS 6 and includes Facebook integration, shared photo streams in iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime and Mail. The device features a new "ultra-thin and light" anodised aluminium design. Each new iPod touch also comes with a colour-matched wrist strap for use when taking photos and video.

The updated iPod Nano is also the thinnest of its kind and features a 2.5-inch multi-touch display (the largest ever for an iPod Nano) and built-in Bluetooth for wireless listening. The new device also promises up to 30 hours of music playback, and has built-in fitness features, including a pedometer and support for Nike+.

All new iPods come with the all-digital Lightning connector, which Apple says has an adaptive interface that uses only the signals that each accessory requires. Lightning-to-30-pin adapters will also be available to connect the new iPods to legacy 30-pin accessories.

Apple's newly designed EarPod earphones are also included with the new iPods. The earphones are said to feature a breakthrough design for a more natural fit and better acoustic quality.

While Core Group has not yet confirmed a local release date, saying only that the iPod touch and iPod Nano will be available "soon" through the iStore, Digicape, Apple Authorised Resellers and Apple Authorised Retailers, Apple has said the new iPods will begin shipping in October.
