Principal consultant from the PBT Group, David Logan, was recently awarded Best Paper: Data Integration for his presentation on how to improve ETL process by 92%, at the SAS Global Forum 2010.

The SAS Global Forum is a premier business event hosted by the leader in business analytics, for global SAS and business analytics professionals.

This year's event was hosted in Seattle at the Washington State Convention and Trade Centre, and attracted more than 3 000 experts in their field to attend a selection of more than 400 presentations, workshops and seminars.

Logan, based in South Africa, presented his paper entitled “Blistering ETL performance using the Intelligent, Dynamic and Parallel Capabilities of SAS”, which highlighted how he has managed to improve ETL performance by up to 92% for clients using intelligent, dynamic and parallel capabilities.

“The SAS Forum was an incredible experience, and it was a great honour to be able to present my paper to a global audience of such a high calibre,” states Logan. “The award goes a long way to highlight the technical capabilities of South Africans, as it is voted by the audience, and gives me impetus to continue to innovate in my field.”

Logan uses his more than 17 years of experience in working with business intelligence solutions across a variety of sectors, including retail, telecommunications, banking and insurance, to assist clients in the field of data visualisation and process optimisation, he boasts extensive experience working with databases with a billion+ rows of data.

“In a tough, budget conscious, cost-cutting industry, the customer is looking to save at every turn and improving ETL performance by 92% is no small achievement. It therefore comes as no surprise that the paper presented by charismatic presenter David Logan was acclaimed as best paper. Congratulations David and PBT,” says Berni Boer, Reseller Channel Executive at SAS South Africa.

“PBT Group is an established leader in BI and data warehousing implementation services with a staff complement of more than 200 highly skilled, professional consultants. Including 50+ SAS specialists; ranging from Junior Base SAS Certified Programmers to Senior SAS Advanced Programmer certifications as well as SAS Platform Administrator certifications,” Boer ends.

In his presentation, Logan posed the question: “If you're not being intelligent, dynamic and parallel in your problem solving, then the question is, why not?”
