LogiTag Systems' SmartCabinet solution is helping dozens of hospitals keep better tabs on their inventory.
The medical device company's solution uses patent-protected RFID technology and proprietary cloud-based software for inventory management, providing hospitals and vendors with precise, real-time inventory management. According to the company, the solution eliminates manual counting, leading to 100% transparency between the medical device supply company and the hospital, which enables all parties to work under a previously unfeasible consignment-purchasing model.
"We have been working with large medical supply companies for a long time," says Shlomo Matityaho, LogiTag CEO, adding that each one experienced problems with managing millions of dollars' worth of supplies under consignment. "Our solutions completely eliminate any risks, as they now hold precise information on inventory levels, its usage and status of their high-value medical devices. In addition, medical suppliers have an enhanced positioning in the eyes of hospitals, as they are part of cutting-edge technology."
The system works by automatically recording what nurses and other pre-approved hospital staff remove from locked cabinets, detailing who removed the item and for what purpose. This information is located on a cloud server and is available to both the hospital and the medical device company, which eliminates disputes over quantities used or payments owed. In addition, says LogiTag, the system will automatically send re-stock alerts, invoices and notifications of expiring items to relevant persons.
The SmartCabinet solution has already been implemented in operating rooms, cath-labs and other departments in various hospitals around the world, which Matityaho says proves just how versatile the solution is. "I feel this kind of proven success can be duplicated in other healthcare facilities, with further medical supply companies, creating improved working routines, and ultimately enabling more time for patient care."
