Logsys buys PreWorX UK

Johannesburg, 01 Jul 2004

South African pre-boot specialist PreWorX has seen conclusion of the sale of its UK-based partner operation, PreWorX UK, to Leeds-based Logsys. The move will provide a broader market for PreWorX`s South African-developed technology and enable Logsys to enhance its share in the UK IT infrastructure control market.

Logsys, which operates in the UK and across continental Europe, has a 30-year track record of delivery in technology and process consulting, technology provision, systems development and systems support.

Rhys Taylor, executive director of PreWorX in SA, says the sale makes perfect sense for the local company. "PreWorX UK was a start-up and was going through the normal process of establishing itself as a recognised brand in the UK. With Logsys we have a recognised partner of long standing with a track record of service and reliability in precisely the markets we are targeting."

The acquisition extends Logsys software portfolio, which includes Internet content management, security consultancy, workflow, electronic messaging and directory services. It will now embrace PreWorX`s locally developed pre-boot VSP (Virtual Service Provider) technology, a solution that allows organisations, service providers and individual users to reduce the total cost of ownership of their computers. VSP can optimise, detect and auto-heal a computer without manual intervention. It can also maintain and secure the hardware and software asset registry within a PC, enabling licence and application management as well as control over software installations.

The acquisition also provides PreWorX with an exclusive channel for VSP in the UK and other European countries. All existing PreWorX UK employees will join Logsys and Ralph Pecker, previous MD of PreWorX UK, becomes sales and marketing director for Logsys.

Garcia Hanson, Logsys CEO, adds: "The market for technologies that reduce the cost of IT support and maintenance for large organisations is growing rapidly. The PreWorX VSP technology is a significant tool in bringing cost-effective IT services to organisations looking for alternatives that work. Combining this with our existing portfolio significantly enhances our ability to deliver strategic services and products to clients, large and small."

Commenting on the acquisition, Pecker notes: "The integration of the two companies provides an important springboard for the deployment of PreWorX technology throughout the world. Our strategic relationship with Logsys allows us to channel PreWorX to major government and industrial users. Moreover, the integration of VSP with other technologies and services within Logsys will offer customers a unique solution to several long-standing problems."
