Lorge converts Supaswift Zambia from DOS to Windows accounting solution

The conversion from DOS-based accounting software systems to Windows-based systems, while becoming a rare occurrence these days, remains a daunting task for the company and staff involved.

Accpac business and technology solutions provider and implementer Lorge has completed a conversion for a client based in Lusaka, Zambia, in just three days. All 16 members of the accounting department achieved competence in the operation of the new Accpac ERP Windows-based solution.

Jo-Anne Parsons, head of Lorge's Accpac corporate training, said in her 20 years of experience, this was the first occasion in which such a large group of trainees had managed conversion from DOS to Windows in such a short time.

“The training for courier services provider Supaswift Zambia, a licensee of FedEx Express, was done over a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and when the new Windows-based package went live on the Monday, the changeover was as near perfect as could be. All of the trainees graduated with flying colours.”

Parsons added that in all her years of training, she had never before experienced such an enthusiastic and co-operative group. “Make no mistake, the transition from DOS to Windows is no easy task, but this particular group demonstrated focus, determination and enthusiasm to a degree I have never before experienced, especially as the course meant they also had to give up their whole weekend.”

Lorge still tackles an average of six conversions from DOS to Windows a year, and Parsons said it is clear that DOS is now close to being phased out completely. Lorge's Accpac training has been conducted in all SADC countries.
