Visitors to this year`s Computer Faire need to make a beeline for the McCarthy On-Line stand number C5N7 in hall 5, where many innovations will be on display and valuable prizes will be up for grabs.
McCarthy On-Line is currently South Africa`s leading electronic retailer via its Call-a-Car and MegaShopper services.
One of the innovative services that will be demonstrated at Computer Faire is that of MegaShopper, South Africa`s biggest and best Internet shopping website. This popular site - which has been used extensively and with great success by Dotcoza - allows the Internet user to purchase groceries, computers, furniture, CDs, stationery, appliances, insurance - and lots more - all at the click of a button. Once goods have been ordered, they are delivered to the customer`s home or office.
Lourens Botha, managing director of McCarthy On-Line, explains that MegaShopper is professional, effective and committed to bringing real value to every customer visiting the site. "We offer quality products, lower prices, ease of use of the website, attention to detail and exceptional customer service," he points out.
In order to satisfy all the diverse needs of the Internet consumer market, MegaShopper has developed different websites, targeted at different segments within the consumer market.
"Every product category is treated as a unique website with unique visitors looking for unique products and information. It is with this in mind that MegaShopper has developed sub-sites," explains Botha.
The first sub-site is MegaGroceries.co.za, South Africa`s first and premier Internet based grocery store. With more than 45 000 products including all fresh produce, meat, perishables and other dry groceries, the customer can find everything he or she needs to stock up those kitchen cupboards.
Every product purchased is carefully handpicked by MegaShopper`s professionally trained shoppers and then safely delivered to the customer`s door at the specified time.
MegaComputers.co.za, the most comprehensive one-stop computer shop available on the Internet, will be launched at the Faire. It offers hardware, software, peripherals and games - all at the click of a mouse. Numerous flexible financing options are also available at this address.
According to Botha, MegaComputers will stock in the region of 25 000 products. MegaComputers has its own delivery infrastructure and will deliver within 72 hours of the order being placed. "Once the computer is bought it will be delivered to your door at no extra charge. If computer and software installation is required, that service is provided at a nominal fee," explains Botha.
MegaLifestyle.co.za offers lifestyle-orientated products on the Internet. Its product range includes appliances, furniture and gifts. MegaOffice.co.za, on the other hand, sells stationery, paper and printer cartridges at exceptionally competitive prices.
Yet another service which will be demonstrated on the McCarthy On-Line stand at Computer Faire is that of Call-A-Car. At Computer Faire, Call-A-Car will give one lucky visitor vehicle accessories to the value of R1 500. The Call-A-Car shopping process will be demonstrated at Computer Faire via two PC 21" monitors.
Call-A-Car, which can be accessed at www.mccarthy.co.za, is an enormously successful concept. Last month, Call-A-Car set yet another sales record, notching up a total of 456 unit sales in that single month!
Around 3 000 used cars are listed on the Call-A-Car website and, at the click of a mouse, a test drive can be arranged.
Other services which will be promoted at Computer Faire include Eliance, a company which is expected to grow into a significant player within the web development market. Initially an internal service for McCarthy-owned companies it offers creative skills (web, multi-media, video, sound), database development and content creation and maintenance. It utilises the Cold Fusion software package.
Recently, McCarthy On-Line joined forces with AST to form the country`s first business-to-business electronic trading hub. A joint venture between the two companies, it will use Infobank`s InTrade e-Hub software, which uses the power of the Internet to bring together buyers and sellers of goods and services to form customised on-line market places. This enables both sides of the trading relationship to dramatically reduce the costs of purchasing and supply.
McCarthy On-Line is part of the R7,9-billion McCarthy Retail group. One of the country`s five largest retailers, the group comprises 91 franchised motor dealerships, McCarthy Financial Services, Burchmore`s, Yamaha Distributors, Budget Rent-a-Car, McCarthy On-Line and Bonus Building Supplies (76 stores). Associate companies include the Retail Apparel Group (320 clothing stores), Arthur Kaplan Jewellers (40 stores) and Relyant Retail Limited (600 furniture stores).
