Lotus Development and cellular phone developer, Ericsson have announced a strategic alliance that will extend the two companies` offerings in the growing WAP market for devices, services and applications.
In addition, the companies will work together to ensure connectivity between Ericsson Smartphones and Communicators and Lotus Domino messaging and collaboration platforms.
Marking the first step in this on-going relationship, Ericsson has licensed 2 million copies of Lotus Organizer 5.0 personal information management system, which will be bundled with next-generation Ericsson Smartphones and Communicators based on the Symbian operating system.
"Using infrared connections and PCs, Organizer 5.0 has been specially optimised to synchronise with Ericsson phones to facilitate easy management of Calendar, to-do lists and directory information," says Steve Dunbar, marketing manager at Lotus Development SA.
Ericsson and Lotus will create new tools for developers and Business Partners to take advantage of existing Lotus Notes applications and data stores such as NotesMail, Calendar & Scheduling and corporate directory services, while maintaining the industrial strength security services that Domino offers.
