Third quarter e-mail-licence figures show that Lotus is ahead of messaging rival Microsoft.
According to Electronic Mail & Messaging Systems, a market-research company, Lotus added 3.4 million new Notes clients vs 3.2 million new Exchange seats in last quarter.
"The good news here is that customers really do have a choice," comments Mike Zisman, Lotus executive VP of strategy.
Market researchers estimate that Notes has an installed base of 25 million users, while Exchange has 18 million seats licensed.
