Linux Holdings organises Mass Linux Professional Institute event at LinuxWorld. By Alan McKinnon, Training Director, Linux Holdings

"I`m at it again" says Alan McKinnon, Director of Training and Training Development at Linux Holdings. "The last LPI [Linux Professional Institute] mass exam held in February was an amazing success. We are having another one at the Linux World expo on the 18th May!"

The goal of these mass LPI exams is to increase Linux technical skills in South Africa. Linux Holdings believes that the LPI certification is the best Linux certification available, and all Linux Holdings system administration courses are aligned around the LPI certification exams. Totally vendor-neutral, LPI exams are not based on any specific course and are only concerned with testing the overall competence of the candidate and no other factor. Currently, LPI offers two levels of certification: LPIC-1 (Junior level Administration) and LPIC-2 (Intermediate Level Administration). Each level consists of two exams.

McKinnon was the driving force behind the 25 February 2005 LPI mass exam held in Johannesburg. 182 individuals wrote a total of 278 exams, all in one day. This resulted in 37 persons achieving full LPIC-1 certification and another 3 achieved the more advanced LPIC-2.

McKinnon adds, "LinuxWorld is the premier Linux expo world-wide. I can`t think of a better event to host a follow up event. The purpose is two-fold: to give the 37 new LPIC-1 graduates an opportunity to write the LPIC-2 exams, and to offer the second exam to the many people who wrote and passed one exam in February. We are hoping to achieve another 35 LPIC-1 and 20 LPIC-2 graduates at this event. The second purpose is to demonstrate loud and clear that professional, top-quality Linux support in South Africa is a reality."
