M for magnificent: the Axis 223M IP video camera

Johannesburg, 16 Jan 2007

The only thing not clear about the Axis 223M is what the 'M' stands for. Megapixels, multi-role, and mission-critical are all applicable.

The 223M is a 2MP day/night camera offering 1 600 x 1 200 resolution for exceptional image detail, even in low light conditions (down to 1.5 lux for colour and 0.2 lux for monochrome). It is supplied as standard with a precision varifocal lens to complement the high resolution.

The 223M delivers four times as many pixels as a high-resolution analogue camera with automatic day/night control of iris and an infrared cut filter, video motion detection and alarm image buffering, two-way audio and an audio detection alarm, to make it superbly suited to round-the-clock mission-critical applications such as in banks, airports, city and traffic surveillance and sensitive office areas.

Roy Alves, Country Manager of Axis Communications South Africa, commented: "The 223M is a magnificent camera, the flagship from the acknowledged market leader in IP video, and we are very excited to announce it. The high resolution allows users to see fine details, or cover a wide area. Cameras like this are pushing the boundaries of surveillance beyond the limits of analogue technology and will drive surveillance technology further down the network-based route."

Power over Ethernet (PoE) support simplifies installation and power reticulation and makes it easy to protect against mains failure, and network security, integration and future-proofing are facilitated by IPv6, quality of service (QoS), https protocol and IEEE 802.1x security support. Application integration is supported by a powerful API and flash memory for uploading embedded applications.
