Global software company Macro 4 today launched new XML technology that enables companies to boost efficiency and service by automatically exchanging enterprise content with customers and business partners. Information from diverse sources can be transformed into XML for Web presentment and downloading directly into business systems, eliminating the manual effort of re-keying data into ERP and ledger packages.
The new facility, called Document Deconstruction Language (DDL), is an integral feature of Macro 4`s Columbus software for document management and delivery. DDL enables companies to transform documents, on demand, into fully tagged XML data. It offers a lifeline to traditional bricks-and-mortar organisations whose e-business initiatives have been hampered by difficulties Web-enabling legacy content, as Lynda Kershaw, Group Solutions Marketing Manager at Macro 4, explains:
"Companies generating printed documents such as bills, statements and purchase orders can now turn their existing output into XML, without making any changes to their legacy systems. That means they can get e-business initiatives up and running in a matter of weeks, instead of months."
A major UK financial services provider is currently piloting the Columbus XML capability for Web presentment of customer statements. Their customers benefit from convenient, 24x7 access to their statements, without needing to download plug-in software, and can resolve their own queries by analysing statement content online.
The new XML facility complements Macro 4`s already extensive Web presentment options, including PDF, HTML and online analysis, says Lynda Kershaw:
"E-business is continually evolving so our strategy is to build maximum flexibility into our software to keep it `future proof`. Companies want the security of knowing they can deliver information to their customers in the format that`s most convenient, today and tomorrow. We offer them that capability."
