Local Web-enablement specialist and Macromedia distributor, Dax Data, has announced that Macromedia JRun has achieved Sun Microsystems` J2EE 1.3 compatible brand by successfully passing that company`s comprehensive Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) 1.3 test suite.
According to Jeremy Matthews, JRun is a Java technology-based application server focused on the needs of developers building server-side Java technology-based applications built on open industry standards. "Macromedia JRun makes the advanced capabilities of the J2EE 1.3 platform broadly accessible to the entire Java development community," he says.
Matthews adds that the J2EE 1.3 compatibility programme helps JRun developers deliver superior applications to market quickly, taking full advantage of Java`s value proposition to enable simplified business integration, simplicity of development and freedom of choice.
"The fact that JRun has achieved compatibility means that Macromedia customers can rest assured their J2EE 1.3 applications will run predictably and reliably," he comments.
Macromedia JRun delivers the powerful capabilities of the J2EE 1.3 specification in a single integrated server, providing the ability to build advanced business systems able to leverage distributed transactions and messaging for enterprise-class reliability. Macromedia JRun supports all J2EE 1.3 APIs, including Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB 2.0), JavaSever Pages (JSP 1.2), Java Servlets (2.3), Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI), Java Transaction API (JTA), and Java Database Connectivity 2.0 technology (JDBC).

Ralph Galantine, product marketing line manager, J2EE, Sun Microsystems, believes that as Java technology evolves and helps to shape enterprise systems, the support and advancement of long-time partners is critical.
"The rapid move to gain J2EE v 1.3 compatibility offers Macromedia JRun developers the opportunity to deploy the new, innovative features of the latest version of enterprise Java. This new specification promotes options for interoperability which they can leverage to gain the benefit of simplified system integration," he says.
In related news, Macromedia also announced that it has been selected as a Platinum Sponsor of JavaOne 2002, Sun Microsystems` Worldwide Developer Conference. JavaOne, to be held from 25 to 29 March 2002 at the Moscone Centre in San Francisco, is the world`s largest developer conference, attracting more than 20 000 delegates in 2001.
"Macromedia being recognised as a key Sun partner and vital contributor in the Java industry means a great deal to the company," says Matthews. "The selection as a Platinum Sponsor of JavaOne 2002 illustrates Macromedia`s dedication to the advancement and future success of the Java development community."
Macromedia was also recently elected to the executive committee of the Java Community Process (JCP), the open process Sun has been using since 1995 to develop and revise Java technology specifications in co-operation with the international Java community. In addition, Macromedia participates in several special Expert Groups that drive the creation or revision of leading-edge Java specifications.
Dax Data was incorporated in September 1989, has offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg, is an IBM Business Partner, a Microsoft Solution Provider and holds a variety of distribution agreements for local markets, including Macromedia, NetManage, DataMirror, MGI and Graphon.
