Cell C rolled out its HSPA+ 900 network in Mafikeng this week. The mobile service provider says Mafikeng is the first city in the North West to be connected, after being considered one of the most poorly-connected areas in the country.
According to Cell C, more than 90% of schools in the North West do not have access to affordable Internet.
“As a first step, Cell C, in partnership with network partner ZTE, will provide Lapologang High School, Kebonang Secondary School and the Montshioa Town Clinic with access to computing and broadband technologies.”
“It is an honour to provide high-quality affordable services to the local community, which traditionally are only available in large metropolitan cities,” says ZTE business development director, Terry Goliath.
ZTE will provide Lapologang High School with modems while Cell C will provide a year of free Internet access.
Kebonang Secondary School and the Montshioa Town Clinic will also each receive a computer, a printer and access to the Internet for a year.
