Cape Town-based software outfit bSOLVe recently launched mailMAC, an e-mail archiving system for Microsoft Exchange Server which enables businesses to comply with regulations for storing e-mail records.
Ever-increasing electronic communication volumes have been causing safe and secure e-mail storage to become a pain-point for IT managers. With mailMAC, bSOLVe addresses compliance issues head on, while at the same time giving IT administrators a powerful, automated tool to manage both storage and retrieval of the huge volumes of e-mail the average business generates.
Simon Hepburn, who heads up business development at bSOLVe, notes that having an efficient system in place for archiving e-mail holds more than one benefit: "Even though compliance with ECT legislation for the retention of e-mail records is a high priority, one shouldn`t overlook the operational benefits of archiving. For example, mailMAC (Mail Message Archiving and Compliance) offers a legal representative the ability to easily track down e-mail that an ex-employee sent 18 months ago, but also gives employees an easily accessible interface with which to search for their own mail on a day-to-day basis".
The tangible business benefits of archiving, according to Hepburn, is what organisations should focus on when considering an implementation solution; rather than just the compliance side of the coin. "Too often, we see businesses being bullied into buying systems because of legal requirements. Not because they feel that the system really benefits their bottom line, but because a consultant pulled a "you have to" rabbit out of the hat to get a sale, regardless of whether there is real value". Not partial to scare tactics, bSOLVe has built a solid track-record with its clients, focusing on cutting through the clutter to deliver only when there is real value at stake. The company, with its roots in development of custom messaging and workflow applications, also places strong emphasis on partnering with reputable, like-minded IT providers in the infrastructure and business solutions segments. "We believe that partnering with infrastructure and other solution providers brings an element of peace-of-mind to our clients (and theirs), quite simply because we`re focusing on what we do best, ultimately to the benefit of whoever is using our software", Hepburn says.
From a technical perspective, mailMAC is the answer to system administrators` prayers. The system automatically manages databases by applying rotation schedules - when a database reaches capacity, a new instance is automatically created to store the latest mail. Records are encrypted and authenticity verified, and administrators have full control over how long archived mail is kept immediately accessible for.
mailMAC is available to be implemented through direct download and installation, or through selected partners. bSOLVe is currently actively expanding its partner network, offering handsome referral commissions and the opportunity to add real value to existing infrastructure; interested parties are welcome to get in touch to discuss partnership opportunities.
