Market responds favourably to new locally assembled HP desktop range

Johannesburg, 31 Jan 2006

Tarsus Technologies has reported a very favourable response to HP`s recently launched DX6120 desktop computer, which according to one of Tarsus`s HP product managers, Andre Wollheim, offers improved hardware capabilities at an affordable price.

"A few months ago HP replaced the DX6100 with the DX6120, expecting the new model to achieve the same level of popularity as its predecessor did in the corporate market, but not to the extent that we have experienced in the other markets.

"Much to the vendor`s surprise, however, the DX6120 has become one of the most popular locally assembled computers in the HP range," Wollheim enthuses, "featuring increased value for money and the same reliability users have always been afforded with an HP solution."

The DX6120 includes a stronger and more performance-centric set of hardware options, more reliable memory components (as its memory technology is based on the DDR2 memory standard) and of course, the main benefit of locally produced computers, the ability to have a fleet of machines built-to-order.

"The key attraction, however, has been the fact that HP has kept the price of the new range consistent with the price of the DX6100, resulting in the demand for the DX6120, surpassing all our expectations and expanding into other markets outside of the corporate market where it was traditionally a strong seller."

Wollheim says that in the few months since this unit has been available in the market, Tarsus has seen a 300% increase in demand, with 2/3 of this being fulfilled by Tarsus alone.

Wollheim says Tarsus`s HP team is convinced it will see even further growth in the future. "HP has illustrated that it has the ability to compete with locally manufactured brands at an affordable price level, while at the same time offering the reliability and build-quality of the international brands.

"The resellers, and more importantly, their customers, are reaping the rewards from this move and therefore we believe the popularity of these locally assembled machines can only increase," he concludes.
