Marketel has launched an SMS horseracing information service for Saftote, which provides details of horse races in SA, England and Dubai.
Marketel director Rob Meyer says punters can either access the results for a specific race or results for the whole day from a specific track by sending a premium SMS.
"While users still have to place a bet at a Saftote outlet or over the telephone, they can now get the results sent to them by SMS.
"To get the results and payouts for a specific race, one simply sends an SMS with the words saftote, the two-letter code for the race course and the race number (each separated by a space or comma) to 34386 at a cost of R2 per SMS. Alternatively, by sending an SMS to 39767, at a cost of R15, the user can receive all the results from SA, England and Dubai," he says.
With the second option, Meyer says the user is also able to get the dividends for a race meeting, including the Pick 6, Jackpot and Place Accumulator.
"Results and payouts are sent to the user race by race during the course of the day. For the same amount, the user can also request results of up to 10 specific races from different race meetings. This is done by entering saftote, followed by the various venue code and the race numbers," he says.
As part of the promotion of the service, Meyer says users can send the word saftote to 34386 and receive a list of all the races scheduled for that day in all three countries, along with the racing codes, for free. Once the schedule has been requested, it will then be sent to the user free each morning for the duration of the promotional period, he says.
The service is currently only available to MTN and Vodacom users, but Meyer says Cell C users will be able to use the system in future.
