International market weakness combined with a strong rand has had a negative impact on Labat Africa in the six months to end-August.
The group has published a notice on the JSE`s news service saying that its earnings for the period will be substantially lower than those of the year-earlier period.
In terms of JSE definitions, this refers to a variation of at least 30%.
"This is largely attributable to the ongoing negative effect of the strong rand and weakness in international markets," the group says.
"This decline is likely to affect performance for the period and for the full year.
"It is anticipated that international markets for our products will improve next year and this, together with new local opportunities, should see profits returning to prior levels in the year ahead."
Labat says the earnings information has not been reviewed or reported on by its auditors and thus shareholders should exercise caution when dealing in their shares until the results are published.
The results are expected to be released before the end of next month.
