Grintek Telecom has announced that its Mauritian partner, Mauritius Telecom, has completed internal testing on the Nortel Business Communication Manager (BCM), an integrated voice and data solution from Nortel Networks, and will be going to market with the product soon.
Karl Osswald, executive for market development in Africa at Grintek Telecom, explains that Mauritius Telecom is the only authorised Nortel Networks agent in Mauritius, and has been serving the local market for the past five years, through its relationship with Grintek Telecom, a Nortel Networks Gold Partner.
"Mauritius Telecom has been supplying the Mauritius market with Nortel Networks' enterprise solution range, including the Meridian Option 11 C to 81 C, and has been offering the Norstar product, a smaller PABX in the enterprise range, to its customers. The Business Communication Manager offers a natural transition to a more powerful solution," he says.
Osswald says the BCM provides an IP telephony and IP trunking service, and also includes a built-in call centre, and advanced voicemail options. "The BCM is more than a PABX - it's an office in a box. It includes a built-in router and firewall, and customers can use it not only as a PABX, but also connect to the Internet via the router, or use it as a mini call centre application as it has built-in call centre functionality. Besides voice mail, it also offers unified messaging and fax messaging, and can be used as a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server, to assign IP addresses."
The BCM manages up to 192 extensions (mixture of IP and digital), can connect up to 60 trunk lines, and can handle up to 80 call centre agents. "One of the strongest selling points of the BCM is its management platform, which allows administrators to access it from anywhere in the world via the Internet to administer user changes," Osswald explains.
The BCM is an integrated voice and data solution designed for small to mid-sized enterprises (SME) and fits well as a branch office solution for larger enterprises with Nortel Networks voice networks. It is a robust, high-performance, fully featured SME PBX product, and is easy to implement. BCM is based on a tightly converged IP-TDM architecture that allows IP end-station support and networking to centralised PBXs and other BCM platforms over IP connections.
Ram Seenundum, head of business sales at Mauritius Telecom, says: "The company is planning to launch the BCM product to target the corporate and high-end SME market segments as well as emerging call centres in Mauritius. BCM will assist us to migrate these customers on a converged IP network for voice and data services for optimum use of their intranets."
Osswald notes: "Mauritius Telecom has a large customer base, and the company is very familiar with Nortel Networks products and solutions. We are confident that the release of the BCM into the Mauritian market will be a success."
