Maximum storage with Maxtor's Mini Edition

Johannesburg, 13 Oct 2006

Maxtor, the global provider of hard disk drives and data storage solutions, has introduced its Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition to the local market. The device is designed as a simple, secure means of data storage and transportation, and is available to the local digital lifestyle market through Sahara Computers.

Sahara has in stock the Mini R14E060 and the Mini R14E100 offering 60GB 8Mb buffer and 5400 RPM, and 100GB 8Mb buffer and 5400 RPM respectively.

The products feature a simple user interface for automated backup, scheduling and push button technology. Other benefits include data encryption through DriveLock embedded firmware which denies access to the content should an incorrect password be given.

"The market for personal storage of information and data has expanded. Product offerings have to present the user with a clear, simple but effective means of security. Data encryption is a safe and easily managed means of data protection," says Gary Naidoo, deputy MD at Sahara.

"This is an affordable, technologically advanced, portable product that offers significant feature benefits including system rollback to restore applications and operating system while keeping digital files or content current. Users can also take advantage of Maxtor OneTouch button - the easy way to make backup copies of your files," Naidoo continues.

Sahara continues to focus on the developments of the digital lifestyle market, which is centralised around effective storage, retrieval, access and management. The Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition will be used as a flagship product in the company's overall go-to-market strategy.

The company has run a series of meetings with its reseller base about the strategy, the product, its feature benefits and target market. Central communication to the market is based on the storage capability of the device, the added benefit of the suite of software that accompanies the device and its value as an addition to the growing mobile and wireless environment.

Manufacturers have focused on ease-of-use to increase its appeal among mobile enthusiasts. There is a clear intention to make the product as robust and portable as possible, with focus on the product set being shock-resistant, easy to set up and only requiring one cable to connect to the host.

"We have great expectations for this product and we believe it will present us with a competitive edge. Users want to safeguard their personal information. Whether its photographs, video clips, music, graphics or general text - people are prepared to pay for solutions that can offer peace-of-mind and security and ease-of-use in duplicating files," adds Naidoo.
