With the announcement of IBM to enter the Fibre Channel Storage and Storage Area Network (SAN) business only four months ago, Maxtec Ltd now a dominant player in the storage system market in South Africa, will soon be accelerating their growth through a strategic partnership with four other international storage players in a virtual storage distribution company called SSD Ltd.
This initiative, signed on the 15 June 1999, aims to add value through improved availability of products and services across Europe, the Middle East and Africa at more affordable rates. In future customers will purchase their storage solutions through one umbrella organisation company which includes Storm Limited, Four Leaf, Distroligie, Touch the Progress (TTP) and Maxtec Ltd - all storage distributors.
"This initiative will lower our overheads and provide us with a large marketing pull in local and international markets," explains Maxtec managing director George Talbot, "Furthermore Maxtec will be able to draw on the skills base of our partners in Europe, thus enhancing our own offering and customer care even further."
The most likely buyers for storage products include the banking and financial services sectors, regional stock exchanges, large manufacturing businesses and agricultural co-operatives.
Through this initiative Maxtec has focused on establishing relationships with the world`s leading exponents in the data storage arena to ensure that it will be able to provide a turnkey solution for every possible application and set the pace in the South African market as well as extend its footprint internationally. "Advancements in technology have ensured an unprecedented increase in requirements for data storage. All indications are that this trend is set to continue for the foreseeable future. Maxtec recognises this and is well positioned to take advantage of it," concludes Talbot.
