McAfee.com brought back into the fold

McAfee.com is officially dead. CBROnline reports that after six months, Network Associates has managed to reel McAfee back into the fold. McAfee originally spun off from Network Associates in 1999 and has been bought back by Network Associates for $200 million.

The plan now is to merge McAfee.com into the Network Associates` division, with two separate units to focus on the consumer space and the enterprise market. The complete merger of the entities has taken a reasonably long time and now that it is complete, it may iron out some of the complications associated with the two having almost identical branding and overlapping target markets. AMD ClawHammer delayed

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced that it will delay the release of its 64-bit Athlon processor for another quarter. AMD says the delay is meant to give a little more room for the release of the next generation of its 32-bit processor line.

The 64-bit processor, code-named ClawHammer, was expected to be released in the fourth quarter of this year. The ClawHammer is the first of AMD`s processors to be based on the new "Hammer" architecture and x86-64 technology which is built to take advantage of 64-bit computing while still maintaining a backward compatibility with existing 32-bit architectures.

AMD is also expected to crank out a little more speed from its existing 32-bit Athlone desktop range and will include a new 333MHz system bus in the next quarter. The company says the delay will not affect the release of the 64-bit Opteron Workstation and server processor, which is code-named SledgeHammer and is due out in the first half of 2003.
