Medi-Clinic boosts revenue 20% with tight focus on asset management

By PRAGMA
Johannesburg, 19 Jun 2003

Healthcare provider Medi-Clinic has enjoyed a 20% growth in hospital revenue and a 21% increase in headline earnings, thanks in part to the effective management of assets across the group.

Medi-Clinic, which commands a 23% market share of the private hospital industry in SA, has been using PRAGMA`s asset performance management system, ON KEY APMS, to manage its clinical engineering equipment and facility assets at 23 sites.

"The effective management of our assets has contributed substantially to our impressive financial performance over the past year," says Steve Drinkow, director of engineering services for the Medi-Clinic group.

In order to keep abreast of technological innovation, Medi-Clinic, one of PRAGMA`s longest running clients, has approved the upgrade of all sites from ON KEY version 2.08 to the latest version 3.2 release 5. It also plans to add nine additional sites to the ON KEY network, ensuring 80% of beds are covered by the asset management tool.

The upgrade, which will be managed by PRAGMA Siyabonga, comes as a result of the additional functionality offered by the new release, including profile configuring and reporting capabilities.

"The design of release 5 is also ideal for supporting thin client architecture, and for supporting Medi-Clinic`s new IT infrastructure. The new system also allows for the logging of work requests via intranet and the Internet," says Gerrie Olivier, MD of PRAGMA Siyabonga.

"This will mean that requests logged on by staff, including nurses at ward level, will register on the system immediately, avoiding the relaying of information by telephone, which can be time-consuming and error-prone." The software tool also enables work request inquiry functionality that allows staff to keep track of exactly where a specific job is in the maintenance process.

Vergelegen Medi-Clinic is be the first clinic to be upgraded with the new software, followed by Panorama and the remaining 13 units in the Western Cape, before being rolled out to the rest of the country.

The project began in June and is earmarked for completion by March 2004.
