Medscheme, SA`s largest administrator of private healthcare funds with over 2.3 million members, has invested millions of rands in an IT infrastructure that incorporates business intelligence (BI) to improve efficiency, customer service, as well as enable timely business decisions.
"Business Objects` BI solution provides us with immediate information, improving our understanding of medical scheme demographics, the tracking of behavioural changes and associated costs, the analysis of scheme requirements for product formulation and the tracking of fraudulent activities," says Chris Cockett, Data Warehouse Architect at Medscheme.
"Also, Business Objects provides a BI solution that is independent of our data warehouse and easily integrates our many disparate systems into one non-proprietary database, opening up our ability to make the most of our data," says Cockett.
Comments Altus Viljoen, product manager at Bytes Business Solutions: "Through effectively incorporating Business Objects` WebIntelligence suite, Medscheme is now able to successfully use information from their databases to generate new models for healthcare plans or options for existing schemes and predict trends within their business and in the industry as a whole."
Bytes Business Solutions played a key role in the implementation of Medscheme`s BI solution. Adds Cockett: "BI has enabled us to make the most of all our data. We can tap information contained in our claims, membership and intermediary systems, as well as in our data warehouse. BI is one of the most important aspects to the successful management and funding of our industry."
He also comments that Medscheme selected Bytes Business Solutions and Business Objects because they offer a long-term investment in BI as well as the flexibility to easily upgrade at a later stage.
"For the past two years we have been using WebIntelligence that has evolved us to the point where we can now offer more than 7 000 brokers across the country full customisation capabilities and a single, online information portal, keeping operational costs low while providing management information for better business and increasing our overall efficiencies," says Cockett.
The Business Objects solution has enabled Medscheme provide its users across the country with timely information. Decision-making is quicker, and users can access information and create reports easily, develop calculations and 'what if` scenarios on the fly, while proactively identifying and addressing key trends before they escalate into business problems.
"BI lets Medscheme access, analyse and share information internally with employees and externally with customers, suppliers and partners. It helps the company improve operational efficiency, build profitable customer relationships and develop differentiated product offerings," he concludes.
