Precipitated by growth, local insurance company, Credit Guarantee, has implemented a second Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) unit at its offices in a bid to provide a secure source of power for its offices.
"Even before Credit Guarantee first opened doors for business in Randburg the decision was taken to implement a UPS," says, Peter Annandale, supervisor, administrative services, at Credit Guarantee. "Power failures were rife in the Randburg area back then," he explains.
The company has since upgraded its 50kva unit to a 100kva machine. "Our mainframe and almost all our PCs are dependent on it," he says.
In addition to this, the UPS handles power for electronic doors, timekeeping systems [using card swipes] and security systems, as well as eliminating surges and spikes, providing a clean, filtered flow of electricity.
The UPS backup unit is augmented by an 150kva generator with a diesel engine which supplies additional power to the UPS.
"We are looking at a 20 minute standby with the UPS running, but the generator kicks in after eight seconds," he says, adding that the unit performs so well, "some people don`t even know there has been a power failure."
Meissner is also contracted to provide service and support to all three machines.
