Melco hits paydirt with NetChauffeur

Johannesburg, 21 Apr 1998

Melco, the privately owned manufacturer of belt conveying equipment, has gone live with Ixchange`s NetChauffeur connectivity solution. The result, says Melco IT manager Anand Munian, has been a "big productivity boost" for the 60 sales and administration staff who need constant access to e-mail."We are one of South Africa`s largest manufacturer of belt conveying equipment. Exporting forms an important part of our business," says Munian, "making Internet-based e-mail a critical requirement. Our Website has led to several inquiries from North and South America and the Pacific Rim, and clearly we need to service these inquiries via the Net. Initially Telkom could not supply us with a leased line and in any event it would not have been a cost-effective solution and providing each staff member with individual dial-up connectivity was impractical. NetChauffeur is the ideal fix."NetChauffeur, running on Melco`s Windows NT 4.0 network, dials out every half-hour through a 56k modem, or every time an e-mail is submitted to the queue. It also takes care of internal e-mail , providing Melco "with all the benefits of a leased line, but without the cost", says Munian.NetChauffeur has proven stable and reliable, with no problems reported in the first three months, Munian adds. Browser access to the Internet is seamless, and the company will soon be invoking the NetChauffeur faxing facility."Easy, seamless, high-speed Internet access is a key requirement for all businesses today," says Ixchange MD Derek Kreunen, "but companies don`t want to tie up valuable resources in making it happen. That`s where we come in with NetChauffeur, effectively allowing companies to outsource their entire Internet requirements, while they get on with their business."
