Mellmo expands chart tool

Mellmo has expanded the Roambi line of apps to allow iPad and iPhone users another way to present complex (BI) via interactive charts and graphs, reports Computerworld.

The Roambi Blink feature lets executives and others select up to five dimensions of raw from a database cube and quickly transform it into a graphic for delivery to an iPad or iPhone, says Mellmo's CEO Santiago Becerra.

Once the graphic reaches the device, a user can explore and analyse the data even when disconnected from the network; a feature that was demonstrated on an iPad.

BI-search hybrid database unveiled

Endeca has unveiled a BI and search combination it says will help end-users find and better understand structured and unstructured data, writes CBR.

Endeca Latitude runs on the firm's Mdex engine and offers a hybrid search/analytical database, which can bring together information regardless of its original type, format, or source, the company says. Endeca says this can enable organisations to ask questions it may not have known to ask.

Paul Sonderegger, chief strategist at Endeca, affirms that the new product can relieve the BI backlog that can build up between the reporting, exploring and predicting processes. Every report, he says, can raise new questions that need answering.

Syria hosts first BI symposium

The first Syrian national symposium on BI applications kicked off this week with the participation of a number of Arab and foreign companies, says DP News.

The two-day symposium is organised by the Syrian Computer Society in cooperation with the Ministry of Communication and Technology. It discusses the concept of BI, its tools and local applications and strategic planning, in addition to reviewing experiences of some companies and institutions in the field of BI.

Deputy prime-minister for economic affairs, Abdullah al-Dardari, says employing technology in business in an effective way helps achieve the institution's goals.
