Meltdown over MacBook battery glitch

Reports have emerged of a serious battery fault in some Apple MacBook Pro units, one the first fruits of Apple`s alliance with Intel and its new dual-core processor technology, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

The MacBook Pro was unveiled this year, and began shipping worldwide in April. Since that time, a growing number of Apple`s customers have reported problems with overheating and swelling batteries on the company`s discussion forum.

The units use Lithium polymer batteries and faults in some of these are believed to cause a host of issues including the failure of batteries to charge completely, computer shut downs and disrupted trackpad functionality.

Good growth for HP notebook PC

HP expects a strong back-to-school season for its notebook computer business and sees no signs of the consumer laptop PC market slowing, the company says.

"We`re predicting strong growth rates for back to school. Overall we are very optimistic about the business," says Ted Clark, senior VP and GM of HP`s notebook PC business.

HP`s notebook business rolled out more than a dozen products and services last month aimed at consumers and businesses, including newly redesigned business laptops and HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario notebooks.
