Characterised by rapidly evolving technology and competitive prices, the worldwide semiconductor memory market is expected to grow at an average annual growth rate of 14.3%, reaching $86.5 billion by 2007*.
Bruce Murphy, memory product manager at Axiz, says these figures confirm analyst predictions that DRAM memory chips will continue to be the main memory element used for PCs in 2007.
In support of the predicted boom, Axiz, one of SA`s leading IT infrastructure distributors has announced it has recently signed consignment facility agreements with Micron as well as maintaining its current agreements with Samsung and Hynix. As a result, Axiz now houses inventory from three of the world`s largest DRAM manufacturers who together supply approximately 70% of the global DRAM requirement.
Micron is one of the world`s leading providers of advanced semiconductor solutions. Micron`s DRAM and Flash components are used in today`s most advanced computing, networking and communications products, including computers, workstations, servers, cellphones, wireless devices, digital cameras and gaming systems.
"Purchasing memory from overseas manufacturers and distributors normally takes three to five days to arrive at fluctuating DRAM price levels together with fluctuating rates of exchange. Axiz can provide memory modules across all technologies in one day at extremely competitive global prices. We offer the top three DRAM memory products which are then locally assembled into memory modules, holding over 150 000 memory chips in inventory at any one time," says Murphy. "Our aim is to meet the market demand at a fair price coupled with leading global quality."
Situated in Midrand, Axiz`s consignment of memory forms part of a very sophisticated and completely automated production facility. As manufacturer of its own memory for the past 15 years, Axiz has streamlined its production, introducing enhancements such as CMTL testing procedures, a South African first, which is the leading independent compatibility test lab in the industry and standard procedure for memory module and motherboard compatibility testing.
