Merc debuts DICE
Mercedes-Benz has demonstrated touch and gesture technology in its future car dashboards and windshield displays, PhysOrg.com reports.
Called the Dynamic and Intuitive Control Experience (DICE), the system combines a multitude of different technologies.
DICE is essentially three components: the left dash, the right dash and the windshield. The left dash is the most traditional, displaying car speed. The right dash is motion-sensitive, and the windshield serves as a heads-up display.
SFLuxe says the user can swipe to view information. Saved information moves down into the dash screen, which is also controlled with gestures and allows the user to play music, make phone calls, or bring up navigation destinations.
Mercedes-Benz is not the only car manufacturer making strides in convergence technology. Ford says it wants to make computing services people are used to at 0mph and make them available at 70mph, Slate notes.
That doesn't just mean e-mail and text messaging; Ford is also hoping to build-in ways to help diabetics monitor their insulin, and allergy sufferers avoid pollen-infested places.
