Johannesburg, 16 Nov 2004

Mercury Interactive Corporation, the global leader in business technology optimisation (BTO), announced the general availability of Mercury Business Availability Centre 5.0.

The new Mercury offering provides an integrated set of application management software, services and best practices that enables IT teams to manage business-critical applications and optimise business results. The software modules in Mercury Business Availability Centre include Mercury End User Management, Mercury Service Level Management, Mercury System Availability Management, Mercury Application Mapping, Mercury Diagnostics and Mercury Analytics.

New features and enhancements in Mercury Business Availability Centre 5.0 include:

* Enhanced end-user management application that combines both active emulation of business processes and the real-user perspective to provide a complete view of end-user performance and availability.

* New integration with Mercury Application Mapping to dynamically map applications to their supporting infrastructure and mitigate the risk of planned and unplanned changes to the business.

"We depend on our Web-based food management system to ensure our food service locations have the information they need to prepare each day`s menu," said Rachid Cheaib, vice-president, IST application architecture and development at Sodexho, the leading food and facilities management services company in North America. "By using Mercury Business Availability Centre 5.0 to optimise the availability and performance of the reporting platform, we monitor the actual user experience, which alerts us to slowdowns and trends before end-users are affected and money is lost. With Mercury, we have been able to achieve and maintain a significantly higher level of reliability of our application."

"Today`s software applications with their support of key business processes have become proxies for the business for many organisations," said Cameron Haight, research director at Gartner, Inc. "To ensure maximum business performance and continuity, IT organisations need to consider comprehensive application management initiatives that among other things provide an ability to understand the impact of supporting IT infrastructure components upon overall application health."

"We developed Mercury Business Availability Centre 5.0 to provide customers with a single view to manage what matters most," said Ramin Sayar, director of application management products at Mercury. "Our customers have an end-to-end view of application and infrastructure performance and availability which allows them to optimise the value IT delivers to the business."
