CCH sold the original Infracom in 2001 in a management buy-out valued at R210 million.
Mergent, a black economic empowerment (BEE) company specialising in providing infrastructure services for fixed-line and wireless communications networks in emerging markets, will take over the Tilca Telecommunications offices in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town.
"This acquisition, together with our recent international and local certification, and a new telco deal, will see Mergent continuing to go from strength to strength," says MD Loren Braithwaite.
The new telco deal involves Mergent providing services to Telkom throughout SA, through Nterra Solutions, a joint venture between Mergent, Citirine and Thembasipho, a Telkom job creation organisation.
Braithwaite says Mergent`s BEE status has served it well, helping it grow significantly in an environment where similar companies have either shrunk or gone out of business.
"We`ve also focused on Africa as a whole, which has been working quite well for us."
