Meridio eDRM integrates tightly with Microsoft for painless enterprise deployment, enhanced functionality

Johannesburg, 18 Nov 2005

Electronic communications, most notably e-mails and more recently instant messaging (IM), have in the last decade become the de facto standard for transmitting and sharing critical enterprise documents and records. For this reason, having an enterprise documents and records management (eDRM) system in place is today an absolute necessity.

"The Meridio platform is a comprehensive eDRM solution which ensures full compliance and brings along with it the benefits of complete control of crucial business information from a single management point," says Kevin Hurwitz, Managing Director of local distributor of Meridio, AmVia.

"This level of management allows for greater collaboration within the enterprise as well as ensuring records and documents are made accessible to users from any geographical location they happen to log in to the network from."

The current version of this powerful platform, Meridio 4.3, goes further than previous generations when it comes to integrating with the ubiquitous Microsoft architectures deployed at the vast majority of modern enterprise sites.

Meridio is a gold partner of the Redmond-based software giant and integrates closely with Microsoft client and server components alike to ensure implementations of the solution can go live with little or no disruption to the operations of the users of the system. No additional training is required, for instance, for a Microsoft Outlook user on the Meridio architecture as the functions of the eDRM platform become a part of the Outlook interface itself.

"Meridio works hand in hand with the entire Microsoft Office suite of desktop productivity applications, creating a transparent document management layer for users of the enterprise system. This in turn enables the user to continue working in the manner and an environment they know, with the full knowledge that their business documents and records are being stored securely and efficiently in full compliance with regulation as they work," says Hurwitz.

Meridio is also closely integrated with the .NET architecture, Microsoft SharePoint servers for enhanced collaborative workflow functionality, Microsoft Exchange e-mail servers and SQL database environments. Meridio implemented on top of a Microsoft-based enterprise architecture creates a seamless, integrated environment covering all aspects of the workflow processes, logging, recording and securely storing documents and records from e-mail to IM conversations - without impacting the productivity of Microsoft-trained staff whatsoever.

Some features of Meridio include selective replication capabilities, allowing for administrators of a multi-site system to choose which documents and enterprise data can be made readily available to all users of the system wherever they may be located.

"The administrator simply selects which data needs to be replicated in this way, and the system will establish the relationship between the original files and replicated ones with users seeing a single large, `virtual` system rather than having to log in to different Meridio systems, potentially suffering performance penalties due to a low-bandwidth connection to the remote system," states Hurwitz.

The Federated Fileplan feature similarly enhances users` experience by presenting them with a single view of the entire Meridio architecture in cases where multiple Meridio servers have been implemented, generally due to extremely high volumes of data or transactional activity. Users then need simply navigate this federated file system and the platform will automatically connect to whichever system the data they require may inhabit, allowing them transparent access to the entire enterprise document store from any geographical location.

Security is further enhanced thanks to Microsoft Digital Signature support based on the PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) trust hierarchy model, and support for SharePoint search functionality further decreasing the crucial discovery time in the event of legal requirements demanding specific records be produced.

"Meridio has leveraged its Gold Partnership status with Microsoft to deliver the most scalable and robust eDRM architecture possible to the vast majority of customers whose enterprise architecture is underpinned by Microsoft software solutions. Meridio brings complete peace of mind regarding enterprise information regulatory compliance while improving the productivity of users and easing the burden of IT administrators tasked with managing the ever-growing flow of electronic communications today," ends Hurwitz.
