Met-Tec Installations cuts workload dramatically with Impact

Johannesburg, 26 Apr 1999

Leading Canadian kitchen equipment supplier Met-Tec Installations has cut its workload in half with the implementation of IMPACT. In addition, the software`s high level of integration has enabled the company to focus on growing its business.

Material director Barry Stagles says: "IMPACT has been a sound investment for our business. We are experiencing good growth in our market and we foresee IMPACT having the capability to handle this growth".

For more than 30 years, Met-Tec Installations has supplied McDonald`s Restaurants of Canada with kitchen equipment. The company employs the latest technology in all areas of its operation, including management, sales, design and manufacturing. With these resources and highly trained staff, Met-Tec has successfully broadened its market to include the restaurant industry, food processing plants, institutional work and the industrial sector.

Commenting on Met-Tec`s migration to IMPACT Encore, Stagles says: "Initially there was some resistance, but once our staff began to use Encore and realised how easy it was to navigate within the system, they quickly became converts".

Encore`s Fast Menus, intuitive business processes and ability to add information on the fly have enabled Met-Tec to input data quickly and easily. "If you are entering a job in Work in Progress and you enter a component that does not have a stock code, you can simply create one right there - there are no cul-de-sacs," Stagles points out. "By pointing and clicking on Encore`s Fast Menus, the operator can run any Encore, Microsoft or third-party Cobol program."

Stagles describes the migration path to Encore as seamless and the benefits, such as ODBC capability, as indispensable. "With ODBC, I am able to create custom reports by pulling information from Encore into Access and Excel. I can quickly tailor these reports to provide the information I require," he says.

Another IMPACT Encore feature that is invaluable to Met-Tec is the ability to track serial part numbers. "It is of paramount importance for us," Stagles says. "When a customer calls for a replacement part we key in the serial number and IMPACT gives us all the pertinent information: the exact model the customer has; when the part was purchased; whether the part has been serviced; and if so, when it was serviced. This has allowed us to provide our customers with a better service level."
