In line with its policy to maintain high standards of training and development within its organisation, financial services giant Metropolitan has opted to continue its association with e-learning company SmartForce Africa.
Jenny Poate, Metropolitan`s IT training manager, says her company has decided to introduce e-learning methodologies throughout the organisation as the Internet becomes more accessible. "We are placing a great deal of emphasis on new-generation training methods, from which we believe Metropolitan will benefit greatly," she says. "However, we will continue to offer traditional classroom training where required, ensuring a successful blend of training.
"One of the motivating factors behind the renewal of our contract with SmartForce was the ease of migration from SmartForce`s computer-based training to an e-learning platform that combines the best of CBT with elements of instructor-led training, such as mentoring, peer group support and seminars."
Training is provided to all staff members on desktop products as well as to IT professionals who are given instruction in subjects like Microsoft, C++ and Java.
Although at present e-learning is focused on IT-related topics, it is likely that in the future other developmental needs such as business skills and customised training will also be delivered in this way.
