MGE Office Protection Systems, an Eaton global electrical brand and a leader in uninterruptible power supply and industrial automation products and services, has recently introduced the Protection Box Powerline.
As the first multi-outlet surge suppressor with a built-in broadband PLC module, this unit addresses the unique needs of broadband Power Line Communication (PLC) users.
Evershree Mathadeen, Distribution Channel Manager, MGE Office Protection Systems, says that typical surge suppressors block or weaken PLC signals. "This forces users to sacrifice protection of their computer or audio/visual systems from harmful surges in order to access their PLC-based broadband or HDTV connection. Protection Box PowerLine models not only provide computer-grade surge protection along with a PLC connection, but also assure optimum transmission of the PLC signal while blocking disturbances from other nearby devices that may interfere with the signal."
She adds that PLC offers many advantages, especially in older buildings, because it is easy to install using existing electrical wiring, it offers more stable data transmission and, unlike WiFi, PLC ensures robust security.
"Until now, users were forced to give up power protection in order to preserve the integrity of the data signal," says Mathadeen. "By incorporating the PLC module, Protection Box PowerLine is the first surge suppressor designed to protect sensitive electronics as well as the PLC signal."
The Protection Box PowerLine combines multi-path surge suppression, lightning protection and a power line adapter in one device, providing users a truly convenient solution that can assure maximum performance and protection at a lower price compared to buying separate devices.
The units are available in five or eight outlet configurations for BS, DIN or FR connections. Each model meets the stringent IEC 61 643-1 standard for surge protective devices.
In addition to offering surge protection, the Protection Box PowerLine blocks disturbances that can be generated by nearby equipment, such as mobile phone chargers or low-consumption lighting. This feature assures the best possible performance for PLC-connected computers or A/V equipment. The embedded plug-in PLC modules are available in 85Mbit models for typical Internet and ADSL TV access or 200Mbit to accommodate maximum performance for HDTV transmission.
