MGX introduces specialised competency centre

Johannesburg, 08 Nov 2000

JSE-listed MGX, leader in information management, has become an authorised Veritas training partner and has launched a specialised competency centre at its head office in Linbro Business Park, Sandton. The instructor led courses include product concepts, installation, configuration options and step-by-step procedures customers are most likely to perform in a centre environment. These procedures include data and resource management, strategies, high availability and performance issues.

In order to qualify as a Veritas training partner, MGX had to meet a number of basic requirements, which included among others, that training be viewed as an integral and strategic part of the business and that the company was willing to make an investment in training competence and facilities. The competency centre also offers existing and potential customers the means for testing data storage and backup solutions that involve Veritas, StorageTek and Brocade products. Real-life scenarios can be created and modified according to requirements.

Says Rob Brickhill, general manager of MGX Storage Solutions, a division of MGX, "The centre is fitted with the latest hardware and supports multiple platforms and storage devices. Our instructors bring years of experience and hands-on product knowledge to the classroom."

"Being an authorised Veritas Training Partner enables us to deliver a complete technology solution to our customer, and thus deliver a higher level of customer satisfaction," Brickhill adds.

The competency centre is fully equipped in a SAN (Storage Area ) environment using Brocade switches and host multiple Sun and Compaq/Intel servers in a clustered high availability configuration. Disk array systems, NAS (Networked Attached Storage) and nearline StorageTek libraries are connected to the SAN via multiple fibre channel. In addition, the centre is linked to the MGX training centre and engineering labs. This enables MGX to demonstrate multiple hardware configurations and the full range of Veritas products and simulate various customer scenarios.

The courses offered cover the full range of Veritas products and can be broadly categorised as storage management (HSM, volume & file system management), backup and data replication, application solutions (Oracle, Sybase, Informix, M/Soft SQL etc.) and high availability solutions (clustering etc.).

Concludes Brickhill: "Veritas training and support services are highly recognised in the industry and customers will appreciate receiving comprehensive product training from a business they already know and trust." Ends
