Storage Solutions, a division of JSE-listed MGX Holdings, leaders in information management, has been appointed a Brocade systems integrator for Southern Africa. Brocade Communications Systems is the leading supplier of fibre channel fabric solutions that provide the backbone for storage area networks (SAN)
MGX Storage Solutions is in a position to offer customers true end-to-end, best of breed storage area networking (SAN) solutions. MGX Storage Solutions has strong skills in Veritas software, StorageTek hardware and Brocade who all provide leading edge technologies in this environment.
Brocade Systems Integrators are certified to sell and support Brocade`s family of fibre channel switches and software that connect servers with storage devices through a fibre channel fabric and allows companies to access and share storage in a high-performance, manageable, and scalable environment.
"MGX Storage Solutions will help customers realize the benefits of SAN technology, from the design architecture to the deployment and support of networked storage solutions," says Steve Charnock, regional sales manager, Brocade.
Fibre channel has become the preferred host-to-storage interconnect technology for open systems. The technology`s high bandwidth, redundancy, and capability to support long distance topologies are making it very popular.
According to IDC, the world-wide fibre channel hub and switch market is hot. In 1999, revenues skyrocketed a spectacular 227% to $236.4 million, and the market has plenty of fuel left to propel it even further. IDC says revenues will increase at a 85% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) through 2003, landing at $2.7 billion and making the market among the fastest growing of any that IDC covers.
"Brocade is the worlds leading supplier in fabric switches and its focus on fabric switches positions it well overall and gives the company a technology base that can be applied in the future to the lucrative director class switches," IDC states.
Explains Rob Brickhill, general manager, MGX Storage Solutions, "Storage plays a new role in many organisations. No longer is it thought of as a tactical technology. It has gained importance and is now considered a critical strategic issue. Customers are also increasingly beginning to realise the strategic value of a SAN and companies are thus beginning to implement strategies and solutions for future SAN infrastructures." Ends
