Microsoft choose NCD thin clients for Windows 2000 launch

X-Solutions, the distributor of Computing Devices (NCD) in Southern Africa, has announced that it has partnered with Microsoft worldwide for the launch of Windows 2000 in February. Microsoft will be using NCD thin client technology for registration purposes during the launch in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

According to X-Solutions managing director Richard Wohlrab, NCD thin clients will also be used in the `Hot Labs` or hands-on training areas at the event. "This will give users, professionals and developers an excellent opportunity to see just how compatible the NCD windows-based terminals and Windows 2000 server really are."

In conjunction with the Windows 2000 launch, NCD will also be making a number of exciting new product announcements including its latest terminal, the NCD ThinSTAR 400. This terminal will be on display at the launch and visitors will be able to experience the latest features of NCD thin client technology.

Wohlrab says NCD ThinSTAR windows-based terminals and the NCD ThinPATH family are ideal thin client solutions in the Windows 2000 environment. "One of our top clients has already deployed NCD ThinSTAR 200`s using Windows 2000 beta version and they are overwhelmed by the success of this project."

Taking a major step towards significantly extending its value-added software offerings to thin client customers, and establishing new capabilities and technologies for Web server environments, NCD recently announced that it has acquired the business of Multiplicity LLC, a privately held developer of advanced server management software for Microsoft`s Windows NT and Windows 2000 operating systems.

According to James Gruener, managing director of Windows 2000 platforms at the Aberdeen Group, which monitors the industry`s acceptance of new technologies, "Multiplicity is well-positioned to capitalise on the burgeoning opportunity resulting from information systems buyers` needs for better management and performance tuning in the emerging multi-user Windows NT market. They have a head start in addressing a need critical to many companies` success with NT-based multi-user computing technology."

X-Solutions, NCD`s Southern African distributor, is pleased to be establishing a partnership with Microsoft SA. " We look forward to working with Microsoft in the future, and believe that many organizations will benefit from the complement between Windows 2000 server product and NCD windows-based terminals and NCD ThinPATH software"
