Internet Security Systems (ISS), the provider of e-business risk management systems, has announced that its SAFEsuite family of products has been chosen by Microsoft`s Information Technology Group to help measure and manage Microsoft`s security risks enterprise-wide.
ISS`s SAFEsuite will be deployed throughout Microsoft`s global network, to proactively protect information across network devices, applications, operating systems, databases and desktops.
"ISS`s technology is helping us complete a critical part of our security management foundation with a system that continually monitors, detects and responds to information security risks across our global network," says Howard Schmidt, director of Information Security for Microsoft and President of ISSA. "In this age of e-commerce, using SAFEsuite will enable us to apply the technology and expertise needed to improve our security posture."
Risk assessment
Microsoft will use ISS`s vulnerability management solutions, Internet Scanner, System Scanner and Database Scanner, to assess and help manage network, system and database security risks across the Microsoft global network. The ISS Scanners` vulnerability detection capabilities will help Microsoft identify and fix security weaknesses. Automated and continuous scans will ensure user activity is in compliance with established security policies. The products will also provide Microsoft with detailed corrective actions, prioritised security risks and a wide range of reports to facilitate continuous security improvement and the quick identification and elimination of security vulnerabilities.
Intrusion Detection
RealSecure, ISS`s intrusion detection solution, will provide Microsoft with 24-hour network surveillance detecting and responding to security threats across its global network. RealSecure uses a comprehensive database of attack signatures to detect intrusions. Upon the identification of suspicious activity, RealSecure will enable Microsoft to respond in realtime to external attacks or internal unauthorised use by terminating the connection and notifying administrators through immediate pager and e-mail alarms.
Enterprise security decision support
Microsoft will use ISS` decision support solution, SAFEsuite Decisions, to automate the overall measurement and analysis of its global network security. SAFEsuite Decisions provides the power to make quick, informed decisions for ongoing information protection. SAFEsuite Decisions will automate the collection, integration, analysis and reporting of enterprise-wide security information from multiple sources and locations including integrated data from ISS`s intrusion and vulnerability detection systems, and third- party security products such as leading firewalls. ISS products are distributed in South Africa by SMCec, a company in the JSE-listed EC-Hold group.
