Microsoft has completed mapping for all its training and certification curricula, making it the first software vendor in SA to complete this process, says Isett Seta CEO Oupa Mopaki.
By mapping existing certifications and training programmes, Microsoft can meet the requirements of the National Qualifications Framework, set by the South African Qualifications Authority.
The mapping process, done in conjunction with Microsoft partner iSolve, took about five months to complete and covers all existing certifications and training, says Microsoft SA MD Gordon Frazer.
It is anticipated that new certifications will be mapped on an ongoing basis, allowing IT professionals to remain current, up-to-date and accredited.
The mapping enables Microsoft to close the skills development gap, as well as give those who complete training a nationally recognised qualification, says Frazer. "Some people have qualifications but find that they are not in line with the NQF level requirements.
"Working closely with the Isett Seta, we aim to deliver qualified professionals with technical and cross-functional skills, based on the requirements of the industry and the standards set by government," he says.

Software development can be more successful locally, thus the certification and training programme also gives companies an opportunity to grow that trend."
By complying with NQF standards, the collaborative work between government and business is demonstrated, and ensures an industry standard in training and certification is set, says Mopaki.
"We encourage employers and learners alike to take advantage of the incentives we have put in place, to encourage ongoing and lifelong learning," says Mopaki.
There are a lot of people who go through learnership programmes or get internship opportunities and after their training cannot find employment, says Peter Clark, iSolve Business Solutions MD.
"We are positive that the benefits of attaining credits against Microsoft training that will count towards a higher degree or diploma, will be advantageous to any learner or IT professional," he concludes.
