Middle East lacks RFID awareness
A lack of understanding of radio frequency identification (RFID) systems among senior IT executives and a shortage of investment are preventing the technology taking off in the Middle East, reports Emirates Business 24-7.
"There is lack of education and understanding of the technology," says Mark Roberti, an RFID specialist and founder of the RFID Journal. "Information has to be fed into the back-end systems within organisations to enable cost savings to be understood. Certain businesses in the region, such as Saudi Aramco and General Motors in Kuwait, have implemented the technology."
The lack of education in the region had led to the formation of the Qatar-based Middle East RFID Association, an affiliate of the US-based International RFID Business Association. The regional body has 50 members.
