Mike Hedger appointed as non-executive chairman to e-mail management company Mimecast

Mimecast, the Web-based unified e-mail management company, has announced the appointment of ex-Kvault Software CEO Mike Hedger as its non-executive chairman.

Hedger brings with him a wealth of experience in building market-leading companies. He masterminded the growth of e-mail archiving company KVault Software from its inception in 1999 to its successful sale to Veritas for a sum of $225 million in 2004.

His former experience includes a four-year stint as EVP worldwide operations at Forte, building the European business before moving on to head up Worldwide Operations and culminating in a successful acquisition by Sun for $700 million.

His earlier career included positions as VP Marketing Operations EMEA for Oracle, managing director UK and Northern Europe for INGRES/ASK and successful sales careers at WANG and IBM.

Hedger comments: "Mimecast has already developed a strong and enthusiastic customer base of over one thousand customers for its software as a service e-mail management solution. It has experienced growth of 300% year-on-year since it was founded in 2003 and our sights are set on firmly establishing the company as the market leader in the field of unified e-mail management. This includes e-mail archival, security and continuity for an annual fixed cost per user. Our immediate goal is a successful launch into the US marketplace in January 2008, to complement existing UK, South African and offshore operations in the Caribbean and Channel Islands. Recent analyst reports on SaaS consistently point to e-mail as a key application to move to an outsourced Web-based service and we are determined to establish Mimecast at the forefront of this market trend."
