Million pula prize-money in airtime gameshow

Johannesburg, 21 Jun 2006

Mascom, together with PAYM8 and VISA, will be giving Botswana users of the PAYM8 top-up facility a chance to win a million pula in prize-money in the "Mascom 109 Direct Top-Up Show" that launches tonight on Botswana TV.

This is according to Jose Ferreira, Mascom`s CEO.

"Since 2004 Mascom, powered by PAYM8`s technology, has been offering mobile phone users in Botswana an airtime top-up service that can be accessed simply and directly. For the next eight weeks, the reward for several lucky users of the PAYM8 service will be more than just convenience - they will stand in line to win a share of the million pula jackpot," says Ferreira.

"Anyone using the top-up service will automatically have their name entered into a draw. Once a week one lucky PAYM8 user will be randomly selected by computer and become a contestant of the show that is to be televised on Botswana television," Ferreira explains.

In-studio contestants will be given the chance to try to select the winning Visa Logos that are hidden behind the keys of the Mascom cellular phone. Every successful guess will allow the contestant to keep playing for the weekly jackpot of 125 000 pula.

"Even if the contestant misses the lucky letters they won`t go home empty handed, they will walk away with consolation prizes or cash, airtime and other prizes and the remaining cash will roll over to the following week when another contestant will have a chance at striking it rich," says Ferreira.

Andrew Springate, CEO of PAYM8, the technology company that powers the top-up service offered by Mascom, says: "We are very pleased to be involved in the 'Mascom 109 Direct Top-Up Show`. It is a wonderful way to thank the prepaid subscribers who use the service for their support. It is also a great opportunity for us to reiterate the PAYM8 solution as one that is simple - and most importantly secure - to use.

"The 'Mascom 109 Direct Top-Up Show` is about entertainment and excitement, but it is underpinned by our sincere commitment to provide users with a reliable and convenient service. This is why we work with a partner such as VISA, whose reputation is built on uncompromising security standards," Springate continues.

Springate concludes: "The PAYM8 service offered by Mascom is based on cutting-edge technology, and provides an innovative and exciting solution to mobile commerce in Africa."
